Getting ready to lose its leaves, this maple in Palmyra’s Canal Park towers over park visitors. I used it as shelter from a rainstorm. In the color version the leaves are a bright orange.

Even with strong contrast between the trunk and leaves, the photo captures the fine texture of the bark as well as a distinct pattern the leaves make as the sky shines through.
